Hi everyone. This is Doric with Virginia Space Makers and welcome to this edition of An Organized Minute. Today I want to talk about melamine. What is melamine? What is it made of? What kind of product is it that we use to build these closet systems? Let’s take a look at this piece of melamine. This is a three-quarter of an inch thick melamine. It looks like it’s press board all the way through, but if you look a little closer, you will see that here on the edge… You see how dense it is right here versus what you see here in the middle? What they do when they manufacture this melamine — they take the edge, they compress it at fifty pounds per square inch and they fill the middle with press board. This is what makes this a furniture grade melamine. This is what you want to have when your car’s out in your garage and a lot of kitchens are made of this material. You don’t want to have just a press board material that is press board all the way through. What it does… It will hold the screw better, there will be no warping, no bowing, and it’s just a much better product that’s really designed for commercial grade application. The other things that differentiate us from our competitors is the edge. You can see here this edge is an industry standard. It’s a very thin edge, which is what most people use with the melamine and see it here… It’s very, very thin. It’s easy to peel. You can chip and it’ll come off easy after using it for a few years. But instead of using this material, everything that we use — that we build with — has a two millimeter bull nose edge. You see how it’s rounded here? And this is guaranteed for life not to peel, chip, or crack, and that’s the only product we ever use. So I hope that this is helpful.
